The 3 point hitch on this little tractor has two positions, all the way up or all the way down. The control arm will not hold at any position in between. Any thoughts for a remedy?

Does the lever itself hold position but not the hitch?

Or, is there no friction to keep the lever where it's set?

No position control in the cheap valve , either up or down , the position is not relative to the
position of the leaver, pretty sure it was like that the day it was new.

Once the leaver is slightly moved to start the hitch up (or down) the hitch continues travel until it is in the full down or up position even though the leaver is not moved to the full down or up position.

jm., I know it doesn't have draft control but am pretty sure it is supposed to have ''position control''. To the O.P., I have a factory tech manual for it & will see what it says. May not get to it for a day or two, tho.

I am not sure , but just seems like I have had that come up years ago and there were some that was just up or down no position but again that has been 25 years ago , Yanmar John Deer . He may just have valve or lever problem.

You do not say if you have an operators manual or not.
If not go to the link and type in 850 and search. Your
tractor Op manual will come up and you can download
it. According to what I am reading the position of the
lever should coincide with a height position of the 3
point. Beyond this you will need someone more
knowledgeable on this tractor then me or a service
manual to diagnose the problem.

I suggest to check for correct connection/operation of rockshaft feedback mechanism(items 42-45) & spring(item 7)

Does the 850 have a Draft control besides the Position control. If so, Draft needs to be all the way down....disengaged position.
