John Deere 1219 questions

I have a John Deere 1219 mowing conditioner. Two of the long metal guards that bolt in front of the pickup teeth on the reel are bet up bad and have started to crack and bend. Would it be okay to take them off and run the mower without them? They were beat up like this when I bought the mower for cheap. I have no rocks in my field so Im not worried about that, just want to make sure it will be fine to run without them. And to be clear again, its the long solid metal guards that bolt onto the reel in front of the pickup tines.

Just some fescue, a little coastal and some millet/milo mix. I plan to
order a new set of baffles but at the moment I need to finish first
cutting while I have some clear weather.

Im mostly concerned about the balance of the pickup reel and if
removing them is going to cause any stress on the pickup reel
without the weight of the guards/baffles.(they seem like they are just
there to protect the pickup tines from damage)

If you take one or two off in a row and leave the rest it will be out of balance.

Easy enough to remove the battens from opposite sides to keep the reel in balance if there is an even number of them.

You can also replace battens with 1" planks of the right width in a pinch.

Well I figured Id just not chance it so I called my local dealer and I
got lucky lol, dealer happened to have 4 in stock so Im gonna run
over and pick them up after work. Kinda odd that they had them in
stock for a 90s model hay conditioner but Im not complaining. I
appreciate yalls input though! Im reading through the forums now
about the 1219s. Seems its common for the frame to crack behind
the wobble box, I will have to keep an eye on mine.

They only want $160 a piece for them. The guy at the counter I
talked to said theyve been sitting on the self for over a year and they
want them gone. Although I did build my own for my 1071 Heston
Using a sheet metal break and bender. But this time Ill just bite the
bullet and pick up the new ones lol. If they were only bent Id be
straightening them.

I would have the welder out and save the cash. They are easy to fix if needed. Ours has 5 bars on the reel so balance would be the problem on it if it would be a problem. They do spin pretty fast on those. I remember the old NI we traded for it. Dad was all unhappy about the cost of the deere mower and all. It has lasted twice as long as that old NI with less maintenance too. The knife runns about 1600 cycles perminute versus the NI at about half that speed sure does cut cleaner.
