350 Sickle mower hook to 986?

Will a John Deere 350 sickle mower work with an International 986?

To hook it up, beside the 3 point hitch, there is one more connector, a pin that goes thru the drawbar.
I have to move the drawbar to the left, then put the pin in. This pin has 2 chains that connect to a bar on the mower. You raise it to 10 inches off the ground first.

I haven't moved the drawbar over yet, but it seems like the pin won't go in.
Question: Would I put this pin in the main, back hole? It seems like the chain isn't long enough.
My drawbar has another hole, not so far back. Should I put the pin in it, in the middle hole? Would that work better?

Thoughts on hooking this up for the first time?

Use this link to go to The JD Agricultural Technical Bookstore: https://techpubs.deere.com/. Click on Equipment Publications. On that page click on the Model Search box and change it to Part#/Key Words. In the search box beside it enter OME58660 for the early model 350/450 sickle mower Operator's Manual. You can download and save a pdf copy for free using the download icon to the right of the box. OME87606 is the late model 350/450 Operator's manual which you can find and download the same way. Those manuals will have the info you need.

You got good advice from Jim as to downloading an Operator's manual (if you don't already have one), as I recall it's pretty detailed in setting up the lift chain.

Is it possible to move the tractor's drawbar forward, many drawbars have multiple holes in the front so their position can be changed.

Something else I noticed... the mower mechanism can be attached to the main frame that pins to the tractor's arms in two different positions.

Your mower is set up in the ''narrow'' position for a small tractor.

For your larger/wider wheel width tractor it should be changed to the ''wide'' position, moving the cutterbar to the right so your right rear wheel is not rolling over uncut hay.

Looks like your drawbar will not swing sideways. You will have to make a bracket bolted to bottom of drawbar
and sticks out the left side of your tractor to fasten the chain.

Yes your mower is set up to work on a narrower tractor as mentioned below. Have to move to the hole on the
right of the frame.

Key #30 and associated parts in the parts drawing below is an example of what Roger is suggesting. Is used in place of 10A or 10B.

Deere sold it for use with their Yanmar-built utilities.

Seems like as many used Mower conditioners as there are around they would make more sense to use one of them and save 3 days drying hay out. I usually mow one day and bale the next. Second day at the latest. We use a a 1219 mower.
