I have a international 385 that left rear tire will lock up occasionally. It has only done it in high range when it does it you can put it in reverse it will back up with no issues then go forward with no issues. Can anyone help me with this

Hello BW welcome to YT! Unfortunately I am going to
say this is bad news for you. It would seem to me
something is coming apart in the left axle final drive a
getting in between some of the gear teeth. Then luckily
it has fallen back out when you back up. I admit this
sounds somewhat unlikely because a loose piece
would tend to fall to the bottom and stay there.
Attached is a factory parts diagram. When it opens you will select Drive train, then click any one of the subsections, then find the preview box for 07-12. There you will see the final drives are planetary gears sets. Clicking on that will open the actual parts section. I would suggest not to use the tractor any more until you determine how extensive the problem is. Continuing to use it may very well continue to raise the price to repair it. I would suggest draining the oil out of the rear end and look for metal or metallic flakes in the oil. If you see this it is a sure thing that it has to be torn down to see what the problem is. If you have the ability to raise a rear wheel off the ground do this. Then block the opposite wheel an put the tractor in neutral, turn the wheel by hand and see if you can hear and grinding or clunking. Also get an 8 ft 2x4 and another short one to lay by the tire for a lever point and use the 8 ft one to pry under the tire to see if there is any up and down play between the axle flange and the housing. Much play there is bad news. Then jack the other wheel up and do the same to compare. A secondary affect of continuing to run the machine is that the hydraulic fluid and the rear end lube are the same. So even though there is a filter there is a possibility of moving the ground up metal in the hydraulic fluid into the hydraulic pump and system and then the problems can snowball. If you happen to be viewing this on a phone post back and let me know. I can put up some helpful hints for that.
CNHI CIH 385 diagrams

Yes I am on a phone it is 8:00 here in south ms. Maybe Monday before I can get back on the 385 I will check for bearing wear I have the tractor setting on jack stands now with both tires off the ground the left tire that has lock up is hard to turn by hand as if the brake could be dragging. My first thought was yours till I found this an now it kinda has me puzzled. The right tire rolls pretty freely.

Sorry, I do not really know those tractor models very
well. I see the park brake in the parts diagram which is
in its own subsection. If that is on the left axle I wonder
if it may be getting oil on it and is gummed up grabbing and sticking
that band. I would say that is something to check into.
Here are the phone tips. Since the CNHI parts site was
reconfigured in early 2022 I have found that when
viewing on my iPhone expanding the diagram in the
box is much clearer. This is the ..preview.. box you see
before you go into the actual subsection that gives the
diagram and the parts list. Also holding your phone
side ways lets you see more of the site navigation links
at the top by the ..Home.. button. I also notice that
instead of going back one page, it skips back two
instead, fairly frustrating. I do not know if this applies
to Android phones.
Edit to correct a few words.

10-4 thank you for the info not sure if I wouldve thought about the park break but I believe thats going to be the trouble maker. I will post when I have a update

Park brake not apt to lock anything up, they get ruined by simply driving with it on, engine easily overwhelms it. You could pull it on while moving and hardly notice.

You could have something wrong in the left final drive.

I changed both master cylinders any bleed brakes as shown in tractor manual now my petals will not return up/release position on its on an both tires are locked.
