DC Wiring Question

I have an Oliver 550 that has been converted to 12V negative ground with a one wire alternator. I am in the process of redoing the wiring and the gauges. The tractor does not have an amp or volt meter, it has an indicator light that was originally wired through the regulator.

Any suggestions how I might make the indicator light work with my current alternator?

Thanks
Rich

Never actually tried it, but if you pry the rubber plug out of the side, there should be a connector under the plug.

Terminal #1 would be the one that connects to the charge light. You can test the theory with a test light.

Connect the test light clip to the + battery post, probe to the #1 terminal. Engine off, the light should be on, start and bring the RPM up, the light should go off.

Not sure how the dash light is now wired, but it will need a 2 wire socket, one wire goes to the switched side of the ignition switch, the other goes to the #1 on the alternator. The base of the light is not grounded, that's why you need a 2 wire socket.

You will have to check it as Steve suggested, or check with the rebuilder/manufacturer. My understanding is it depends on the regulator used. Some will operate an indicator light, some won't.

Personally, I would remove the light and add a voltmeter.
