Ear Worm of the Day

This is a rather strange song, and you probably wouldn't know it by the title if I told you, but you will sure recognize it when you hear it!

And read the lyrics, you will probably realize you've heard it wrong all these years too! I sure did!

This was written by Robbie Robertson, with input from other members of the group 'The Band'. But they were also known as the 'Canadian Squires' and 'Levon and the Hawks'.

The song was released in 1968 as a single and on the album 'Music From Big Pink' which references a big pink house where they practiced and recorded.

They finally settled on the name 'The Band' after this album gained them some recognition.

The setting for the song is in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, just because...

The rest is a compilation of real people that each band member contributed to the song through relationships, chance encounters, relatives, and other interesting characters they met through life's journeys.

I'm sure if we knew more about these people and their contributions it would make more sense! So, enjoy it for what it is, just a cool song!

I'll guess "The Weight."
Pulled out of Nazareth, I was feeling bout half-past dead..."
Good ear worm.

I forget the name of the movie, but they did a great farewell concert with a huge lineup of people and Bob Dylan of course, whom they backed up for many years. Gerrit

That would be "The Last Waltz".

The line: "Pulled out of Nazareth" inspired a Scottish band to adopt that name. They were most famous for the songs "Hair of the dog" and "Love Hurts".

Thanks, that was bothering me. For some reason I had it stuck in my mind the concert was called The "Changing of the Guard"

Very familiar song, didnt know and wont remember in 10 minutes the name of it! Or who sang it.

Funny deal that is.

I was big Nazareth fan back in the day.
It was my dad that told me that Love
Hurts was a cover of an Everly Brothers
song.

Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris did Love Hurts in 1974 too.I know the year because I was hearing it the year I graduated,1974.I have no idea who actually wrote it or did it first.

Great band for this time period of which I was a wild child of the 60s and 70s. Remember. A great many songs written during this time dont make a whole lot of sense because drugs were commonly used by many songwriters. Some songs make no sense at all except to the artist. A lot have a common theme of the Viet Nam war too. None of that really doesnt matter to me because I love that era of music. I grew up with it and sure had some awfully great times with it playing in the background. Thanks. Wingnut
