Hey Guys, I was on my tractor property getting ready for the Sunday Tractor Pull and got all my pulling tractors started so I thought I would film it for you all to enjoy. I have a John Deere AR, A Farmall H, A Farmall C and a Hand Start John Deer A in that order.

You used the wrong plug to check oil level on the Farmalls. Need to use the upper plug rather than the lower one.

I agree, top one for full level, bottom one, is like safe to operate BUT not necessarily full. Could be full or at add point by using lower one.

If you add a dip stick it goes in top one so you know actual level of oil.

I have a Farmall M and I thought I read the oil is checked at the different plugs based on what attachment is on the tractor (I believe it has to do with cultivators).

Ron,

You asked: ''What would be the purpose of a TOP plug if it is never used?''

The top plug is used in two situations:

1. When doing an oil change. Open the top plug and put oil in until it weeps out of the top plug, then it's full.

2. When checking the oil level and nothing comes out of the bottom plug you close the bottom plug and open the top plug. Then add oil, a quart or more, until oil weeps out of the top plug.
