Flying the flag on Memorial Day--

According to the experts the correct way to fly the flag today and honor the deceased is to run old glory to the top of the pole and lower it to half mast until noon and then raise it to the top until dusk-So that is what I will do. I took my 3 x 5 down and put up my 5 x 7 for the day.

Really windy today--again

I always replace my flag with a new one just before sunrise on Memorial Day. Half staff until noon, then to the top.
I put the new one up in the rain this morning.

Great pic. That's the way I did it this morning. I lost a good friend in Viet Nam and have lost several since due to the delayed effects of that war.

I've been forced to give up on flying the flag. TOO MUCH wind. One flag was totally destroyed by the wind and then the pole was wrecked. I fixed the pole and got a new flag, only to have the pole wrecked again by the wind.

Wind is super strong again today. I can only imagine how many flags will be torn up today.

I have a very special flag only flies on Memorial Day. It was flown from the mast of the USS Stennis, and was flying when the trash was dumped. AKA burial at sea,

A bit of a Canadian connection from me today on your Memorial Day. In 1957 or thereabouts, a family moved into our area up here in Canada. The dad was a Baptist Minister (I thought he was in the oil business at the time but he wasn't), not exactly sure how he ended up way up north with the church. His son Billy chummed around with me and a few other friends for the 2 or three years they were here before they moved back to the USA. Funny little guy, always laughing and having a good time, fun to be with. Years later in '67, his obituary was in the local paper, I suspect maybe a relative or one of his dad's congregation did that. Anyways, I always think of him on your Memorial Day ..... Rest in Peace Billy. Here's a link below about him ....

I was wondering the same thing.
My b-i-l was in Air Force during Nam Mrs 730 told me Denny had to do guard duty for chickens. Denny later told me it wasn't chickens but soldiers didn't want want wrong people to how how many soldier had been killed.

Thanks for flying two flags. We also fly two. Liked the windmill in the background. I am probably not to far from you, I'm in North Central Iowa. Also my wife has a cousin that pulls with a G John Deere out of New Hartford, Wes B.....
