40 9n starter button wont engage starter. I took the button out and depressed the forks with a screw driver and it does engage. It is in neutral. If the problem is the button can you source them? Is there a repair?

Desperate and dumb

Thanks

The transmission button is not available. You can fix it by adding a washer to the button. Or remove the switch the battery cable is connected to and jbweld a quarter to the end for the rod to push against.

I had one like that and just had to clean the contacts with some sandpaper.Might be something simple as that.

I ordered a button for my 9n. The diameter of the button was the same as the hole that it was supposed to go into on the dash. The button that you push in to engage the starter, is of course, larger. So that one didn't work. I think that I had ordered it from a competitor, so I hope you have better luck here. I took an old one apart and cleaned it up . Good Luck

I found on one the washer/ring that pushed the forks was broke off on 2 side from time and wear. I just put another washer on and soldered it so the button would push the fork to the switch. you had to unscrew the push button from the transmission and then hold it pushed while you looked up in there. Found it by would start sometimes and not others. If you turned the button it might start or would push in to the fork and not start. Turn button again a bit and would start.

So is it a tractor with on dash starter button and no safty start or with starter button in top of trabsmission cover and safty start. Some seem to be reading one way and others the other way. About 20 years ago I had to replace the one in top of transmission and at that time could not get orignal but easy to modify newer style to fit. 41 9N.
