Case 646 back to life

I thought it was the engine that went BANG while just idling. Pulled the engine out to see what happened, couldn't find anything wrong. Next check the hydraulic pump, half turn and stops, turned the opposite way, half turn and stops. Took pump apart to find broken teeth on the gears and badly damaged. After many phone calls and lots of research of part numbers I was able to find a brand new pump that would interchange for only $110. I got lucky on that. After a very good cleaning and flushing of the hydraulic system, it's all back together and working great.

That awesome! Glad to hear the engine is ok. If you dont mind the question, where did you find the pump? Just in case the same thing happens on my 648.

I actually found that pump on Ebay. I called Barneveld Implement to see about a pump from them, but they didn't have one. They did give me a part number of the correct pump so I could try to find one. The pump I had, they said was not the original pump. I don't have my notebook handy or I could tell you what pump it is and the numbers

Thats ok. I was just thinking if something happens in the future, since Im ready to start using it. Its good to know parts are out there!

If memory serves, I believe the 648 takes a different pump than the 646.
The 646 pumps aren't exotic. I had to do both mine, but I don't recall all the gory details on the pump spec. They are a PITA to do. The hardest part is usually the oddball lovejoy.

Yes, that pump was a PITA to change. The
Lovdjoy coupling was easy to find. called
Bearing Headquarters and said I need a
Lovejoy AL-110 with 5/8 keyed bore, and they
had it the next day. That wasn't a cheap
part to buy!
