Ford 850 Governor Stuck

I was away and my 1955 Ford 850 hasnt been started in
over 5 years. I replaced the points, rotor, carb adjustment
needle, etc., and it ran normal for a few seconds then
went wide open. Must be a governor problem. Any
suggestions? Adjustment, remove and clean, replace?

Make sure the linkage is free and not binding some place

Sounds like a governor fail being it worked then over revved.

But do check the linkage and for binding.

Might try manually operating the throttle at the carb to be sure the throttle plate didn't come loose from the shaft.

Thanks. The linkage is binding at the governor. Ill have to pull the governor.
