IH 666 Spindle/Arm Replacement

Good morning All,

I'm wanting to replace the sloppy steering spindles and arms on my very well-used 666G. In the parts book, there are early and late parts, and I've forgotten the serial number, but I will get it soon.

On the other hand, this site and others has the Taper-Lok kit for around $500. Is this the better option and will it fit early and late tractors? This option is attractive because it contains all the compatible parts in one package.

What would you recommend?

Thank you

(I posted this on the IH board, too)

Another way and I've done it to 2 different tractors. Drill 2 quarter inch holes down in splines. Then drive a quarter inch steel dowels into holes. Next weld it all together. Grind it flat and put the cap back on. No one but you and I will know the difference. The ones I did lasted till we got rid of tractors and I bet they are still holding today. One of them was a 706 so probably same front end. Oh and I did it on a 750 massy combine.
