Today I added a Pickup I recently bought. I've been with them for 12-15 yrs. They ask if I was interested in adding my home. I said sure then another person came on phone. He started asking about my type home, address and etc. Then he ask you have any animals. I said I have cattle and a dog. He said we don't insure anyone with animals. I said well the cattle is not at my house. Said it didn't matter. I ask what is your reason if you own cattle. Said there policy is if you own animals we will not insure anyone. Well guess if I have my trucks around cattle then that's OK to insure it. I've never had a claim with them but I'm going to cancel my auto's in June when it come due. Anyone had this problem or even heard of this?

ever heard of that. I've let Geico quote my insurance a couple times over the years, but they were always the highest.

thats about when i would have told him what to do with his nonsense insurance and left. some people have no clue, maybe he thought the cow would kick u in the head, who knows what stupid reason they have.

I had some of my building materials damaged by cattle. The insurance carrier called me and said my policy didnt cover damages by animals. I said, Of course it doesnt! What was I thinking? I should have known that I bought a GENERAL liability policy that doesnt cover damages by animals. Im sorry for bothering you. He said, Im so glad you understand. I hung up and called my agent. Turned out that it was covered after all. That is why I never buy insurance online. I want an insurance agent that I personally know to call when things like this happen.

So they refuse anyone with a dog, cat, goldfish, bird?

What about service animals? Sounds like discrimination to me!

That would really limit their coverage potential!

I recently got quotes from Geico and Progressive, they came in almost double what I have now with Safeco (liberty mutual). It is all a racket...

That's for sure!

We had a claim with State Farm some years ago. The adjuster in our case was the type that got where he did by screwing people over. I fought best I could. Then one day we were talking to our agent about something else and I just mentioned this other mess out of frustration. She went through the roof! She fought tooth and nail until State Farm actually apologized to us. Can you imagine that?? Yup, she has our business forever!

I have Erie through an agent for everything, auto, home, and business. My wife has been with them since 1992, I married into it. Erie has been great, in both price, and claims. They have always been Johnny on the spot with claims, and those claims haven't affected my premiums much.

I couldn't get a universal coverage policy years ago because I own old tractors. Don't remember the company.

I agree,, I have had Erie for 35 years,,they have been great to work with,, and they dont waste money on stupid commercials...

Yeah, local insurance agents are GREAT... They can look you in the eye while they reach around and implant the 2x4.

They're the only game in town, so it's either deal with them or go online.

Geico gave me a quote on my motorcycle. Quote was for a full year of coverage.
After about 3 months, I started getting a bill for more money. I ignored them.
After several months, I got a call from a woman who told me it I didn't pay they would cancel the policy.
I didn't pay any more money so Geico cancelled the policy.
They quoted me a price and I paid it. Never had a claim.
Never will I have Geico insurance again.
Glad I didn't tell them we have horses, a donkey and dogs.

The only ones I found that would cover my cattle and other livestock was Hastings and Farm Bureau. All the others that were going to give me the deal of a life time change there mind and walk away when I mention farm animals. I have always carried Progresive on a separate policy for my motorcycles. I've had FB for allot of years and I don't feel I get much of a deal with them but at least I'm supposedly covered on my small Farming operation.

To be fair, farm animals are a significant liability. Cows get out all the time, wander out into the road, get hit by a car, wreck the car, injure the driver... Neighbor kids sneak in to see the animals, antagonize them, get attacked, get injured... It may be their fault but you are liable.

Before you start going off about how your cows never get out, they're docile and would never attack anybody, or how nobody would ever dare sneak on to your property... How can you GUARANTEE that to the insurance company? Your word? That and $1 will get you any size cup of coffee at McDonalds.

When an insurance company says they cover something they HAVE to cover it that first time. They can't go back and say, you weren't maintaining your fences, we're not paying. Only AFTER they pay out can they say, you were negligent, you're cancelled. There is only one way to avoid payout and that is to say they will not cover it.

Probably a hold-over from the days before they changed their company name. They started as Government Employees Insurance Company - so you know how honest and reliable and worthwhile they really are. They are evil.

OTOH some jackwagon used a sawzall to steal the cat converter from my 2004 F250 about three weeks ago. Cost $1800 including the welding to put one back. Farmers insurance had my money in my bank account within 24 hours of my claim.

Steve,
That's a catch 22. Landlords have to rent to disabled people with dogs. Service animals are trained and tame.
A warm and fuzzy support animal can be a pit bull, a bull, a horse, anything goes..
State Farm won't insure rental commercial properties.

Have had GEICO for 35 years now. I had sold my car when I moved to a big city (DC) and didn't have insurance for 6 months. Bought a car and every company wanted to charge me an arm and a leg because I didn't have insurance. No one could answer why I would need car insurance without a car... GEICO was the cheapest and and told me my rates would go down after the first 6 months and they did. Everyone else was a year at the high rate. Have had claims that were all paid and only one time did my rates go up. But they went back down after 6 months. Years ago, they offered to give me a quote on insurance for our home... at that time, it was being offered through Travelers and not GEICO. But Travelers wouldn't cover a rural property. But that didn't stop me from keeping GEICO as my car insurance given the good luck I've had with them on everything else.
