Our new old tractor

We went to get it today. It is going to need tires. I have a friend who has two used back tires he said I can have. One tire aired up. May only have to get one tube and of course a front tire. It is a 46 M. I was told at first it was a H. We got there with the trailer to only find out it would not fit. I have more room to slide wheels in on the axle. I just did not take the jack or tools to do it. Well, wasted day and gas. It is only a two hour drive. The trailer I took was a car hauler. It was 7 foot wide between the fenders. The back tires spread measured 91 and three quarter inches. I am going to check on another trailer and go back with the tools to move the wheels in also. I guess today just boils down to $h!t happens. I will take better pictures of tractor and post when we get her home.

Looks like a nice project and looks like the young man is interested in it as well. Nothing will beat some father son time I guess I can only assume that is the case. Is the engine free? I see some sort of bracket near the clutch pedal do you know what that is or maybe someone else recognizes it. BTW, not sure how much you know about moving the wheels on an old Farmall but your tools should include a 3/4 in drive and a 4 ft cheater. I think the bolt heads are 1 hopefully someone chimes in if I am wrong.

That's a FINE looking tractor, I hope you enjoy getting it going! Many years ago I moved 2 non-running M's with a trailer about the size of your car hauler. I was glad that I was much younger then ;-) Had to scoot one wheel all the way in and REMOVE the other one and turn it around(dished in)and move it all the way in to fit. Of course both had the factory wheel weights which meant man-handling the reverse wheel, DON'T let it fall on you. Maybe you can borrow that front-end loader to help? I used a 3/4 inch drive set to loosen the wheel clamps. I don't know if those weights on yours will allow you to get a good fit or not, may have to remove the weights before you remove the wheel IF you don't have a wider trailer. A handyman jack helped a lot, so did a sledge hammer and iron digger, then I had to winch them on with a hand winch. Bring plenty of penetrating juice and a lot of patience. Good Luck with it!

those are some Major wheel weights. Factory IH weights are about 100#, those look twice at least. Don't get hurt if you have to take them off to move the wheels. nice project with the young man.

The best advice I can give for moving the wheels, is take two farm jacks, one on each side of the axle housing makes lifting easier. Then just rock the wheel top and bottom and it should move in.

I haven't ever seen wheel weights like that. I'm thinking they are not right for an M. Not to sure if I wouldn't take them off, and leave them off. Maybe take them home separately, if they are included in the tractor deal. Figure out what to do with them later. They sure aren't going to help out any, by trying to move the wheels in, with them on there.

Big jack under the axel housing is best for jacking. Use blocks if you have to. Shy away from a handy man if at all possible. Just not the best jack to use for this project.

If you plan to roll tractor around on that front flat tire, I'd be real careful about NOT bending (damaging) that front rim. I sure wouldn't want the chore of finding another one, without having to buy another whole single wheel front end to get it.

No what I am seeing is higher, almost looks like the back side of the clutch pedal where you place your foot taps against a point on it. Just maybe the way the sun is shining in there. The photo gets blurry when I expand it to that point.
