Interesting little vignette about the Mighty Yamato going down.
By that stage in the war, after So many Japanese ships had been sunk, the American press hardly even reported it.
The biggest battleship Ever was gone and all its sinking rated was a footnote.

By the way, the captain of light cruiser Yahagu - sunk along with Yamato that day was Tameichi Hara who survived the war.
If you ever want to read a very good book by a fearless and wily commander read his 'Japanese Destroyer Captain'.
It really makes you realize what tough, smart adversaries we were up against in that war.

Have and read that book. IIRC he was the one who pioneered their deadly destroyer/torpedo tactics.

I think a few days before this the Yamato and that cruiser had a battle a single U S destroyer . They battleship never engaged , speed off tried to get away. But the destroyer hit the bridge of the heavy cruiser and startled a fire . Then returned fire and blew the bridge off the destroyer. Destroyer got away . Think the destroyer was the Roberts

They had guts , sailed in close landed a lot of hits .
Days where number for them , got a positive Postion for us carriers to finish them off .
