What do you call this weed that's blooming

In last year's soybeans and not in the corn fields?.

Bigger question, what chemicals are used in corn fields that prevents this lovely weed from growing in the first place?
 
Dear Geo, We need to see a far closer image with flower details and stem/leaf configuration with a ruler or object to show scale. It is likely a broad leaf weed in that the herbicide for corn would provide that protection whereas for Soybeans not so much. Jim
 
I can't see the weeds in the picture good, but I use an atrazine based chemical in corn to control broadleaf weeds.
 
Henbit is what I think it is too; we see it all over around here in bean fields, and even in bare areas in hay fields. Mark

Or why are this weed not present in corn fields and only bean fields?
 
A week or two ago I asked about a low-lying reddish-pink weed in Missouri whose name I could never remember. I was planing a trip for Tulsa and knew I would see the weed (which is really pretty blanketing entire fields). I was told henbit. Sure enough, on my Tulsa trip on Thursday last week I started seeing henbit about halfway down Missouri. On my way back toward Minnesota Sunday, I saw it blooming much further north in Missouri.
 
So what chemical is used on corn kill henbit? Must be strong to last over the winter..
 
My experience with henbit in the yard is that if you spray before it seeds for a few years is won't come back. I don't thinks roots survive the winter, it just seeds itself. So herbicide on crops for a few years probably killed it off. The other fields didn't get annual treatments or not enough. My guess.
 
2 4 D Dicamba (Weedmaster), Roundup (Glysophate), Pasture Gard, and Milestone will kill it, and the best time to spray is February and March. But the farmers will spray soon, either round up or dicamba, or whatever the GMO crop is engineered to be immune to. The weed is a winter annual. Mark.
