It went downhill from there!

When that happens its never fun ! I think its definitely staged though. In 25 years Ive thrown a few tracks, and none came completely off. That track also looks pretty small compared to the stick and bucket. Maybe its just the angle, but I think its phony !

I don't think I have ever seen a track come off like that.
They either break and you walk off them or they jump off on one end.
Even if it did come completely off on the front end you would still have to walk out of the track for it to roll down the hill like that.

Due to friction I have trouble believing a track will roll like that alone let alone come off that far without knowing it. Usually feel it as soon as it starts to come off and you would stop rather than have to split the track to get it back on. The street plate pads would let it slide pretty good for getting it back to the machine.

Well, the grousers are very small as they are on an excavator track. There are plenty of videos out of there of putting whole tracks back on after they pulled off. When using a friend's dozer a few years ago he cautioned me to not turn too sharp or the track could come off due to the wear on them. A crawler will roll down hill very easily so a track should too. It would take either another machine or a lot of chain/cable/strap to pull it back.

Maybe YOU would feel it but not everyone in the cab of an excavator is an experienced operator in tune with their machine. I could see a novice operator turning sharp and walking right out of a track before they realized what was going on.

Cameras also make hills look much flatter than they are.

What's saying the track came off the machine that the video was filmed from?

It could have come off something else further up the hill, and gone sailing by as shown.
