Hydraulic System success

First off, I want to thank everyone on here who has chimed in and helped answer my questions. I have been building and plumbing a front pump and FEL on my '46 MH 101 Jr. I filled the homemade frame reservoir this afternoon, and no leaks. I then turned over the engine with the starter, and oil came out the disconnected return line. I then hooked up the return and the two spool ran the lift cylinders in and out. Tomorrow I will drive the tractor up to the frame and bucket, hook it up and see if everything works under load. But right now I'm a happy camper!! I will get some pics tomorrow, and post them with a final update. Thanks again for ALL the helping hands. You folks are absolutely great. steve

Glad you are making progress! Here I a link to your earlier post. Had to go back and look, wanted to see if you were the one that had a front mount pump, that poster had a questionable pump mount bracket and a way lower rated coupler then it should have had. If I remember right it was a Ford or Ferguson I am thinking. If I remember right someone suggested part of his problem may have been that his system looked to have a flexible radiator hose on his pump a suction that may have degraded and sucking closed.

I did a front-mount pump, thanks to a neighbor's machining ability. It took some finagling to fit a big enough Lovejoy under my radiator, but the shaft runs really true, and I NEVER underbuild anything structural - like a pump mount. I still need to transition my 3 point over to power-beyond from that front pump, so I can use the smaller pump for my Char-Lynn power steering, but its all coming together well. I'm using a beat up pump on the front right now. If it holds together, so be it. If it fails, I needed a pump when I started, and this one came with the tractor. I was a little hard on it when I had to slide the tractor home from the neighbor's. It had a 6 gallon iceberg in the tranny when I bought it. That really seems like a long time ago. steve
