MF 230 Power Steering questions help

New member here . So far the site has been a big help so I wanted to see if I could acquire some more information on my father in laws 230 . I was asked to look at his 230 and I was told it does not have power steering and after removing 30 years of grease and grim I found a hydraulic pump basically dry other than some pink foam inside . I have removed it to clean it up and wanted to know is this a pump that is probably dead from neglect and how one this tractor doesnt have a cylinder on either side for the power steering ? Thanks for any information.

I believe that if you add the right oil to that pump it will probably work. The power assist steering has its cylinder built into the steering assembly instead of separate cylinders for each side.

I would start with filling it with automatic transmission fluid and see if it
will work.

It will moan and whine, might be jerky until the air works out.

If it settles down and starts working, look for leaks. You may need to be
turning the wheel to put the system under load to find the leak.
