ELECTRIC BATTERY PUSH MOWERS

Anyone have a battery powered self propelled lawn mower ? My mom is getting up in years and I think the issue starting the mowers we do have is she can't pull start them very good anymore. Nothing here to worry about sharing battery's from. Looking for some first hand info on good and bad.

All i can tell ya is the one neighbor across the street bought one and went all Battery power last year . He has a small yard like all on this street . He used it a couple times and had to finish with his old gas powered one . Used it a couple times and i have not seen it out since he's back to his Walmart special gas powered . Same with his weed wacker . Can't tell ya what make electric he bought other then it is Green. and it will not cut heavy grass.

Stepdaughter has one and it is terrific. She has a yard less than an acre - probably about 3/4 acre, and it mows it fine. I imagine if she let the grass get away from her and get really big it might take more than one charge but she has two batteries anyway. Highly recommended! I don't see why anyone with a normal yard fools with gasoline any more.

I think those are EGO brand. Lots of places had them for sale last year, but I haven't seen any this year. One mower shop had the full line of EGO last year and not a one this year, all they would say was they decided to not sell them any longer. That's all I know on them

My mother has had one for about 5 years now and likes it.(in town, small lawn)

No gas or extension cords to mess with.

Battery lasted her 4 years before she had to replace it.

I have an electric powered weed whacker and pole chain saw. Bought them at The Home Depot and never had any problems, they work great. My lawn is too large for an electric power mower, otherwise I would be using one. So much less hassle and quieter than gas powered tools.

Not self propelled, but we have had a basic Ego model for a couple years now. Just use it to do the trimming of what we cant get with a sub compact tractor. No complaints whatsoever. Bought it due to the son having a muscle condition and not enough strength to start a gas engine. The battery mower starts every time with no fuss. Battery lasts about as long as the kid pushing the mower.

Also have the matching string trimmer. It works good for what it is. Has a smaller battery than the mower, but lasts as long as you want to hold it for. Suitable for trimming around buildings trees in the lawn etc.

Still have the 42lb Echo trimmer for clearing brush tall weeds out back etc. But I am the only one that uses it and I can adjust my own carb.

We bought the 80-Volt Kobalt brand two years ago from Lowes. It works very well! My normal mower is a Kubota zero-turn, but wife cant get used to it. So when Im away, she uses the electric. Only two charges to get the whole lawn done.

I bought an EGO self propelled. Never tried really deep grass. The machine has a variable speed self propulsion...battery lasted better than I did. Charge it if you need to while eating or resting.
Sucker cost $500 with one battery and charger.

Their marketing jerked around, maybe away from HD to local never cheap hardware store.

It is quiet relative to the stinking, rope jerkers. Leo

Electric starters are an option on many push mowers and work well. They do add some weight though. Simply holding onto the handle of the pull cord and pushing the mower ahead to start it works too, especially down hill on a smooth driveway.

The area to be mowed is important with a battery powered mower. If it is a large lawn it may be time to hire someone to mow it for her, that may not be too far in the future anyway. Is your mom sixty or eighty and how big is the lawn?

Our daughter has an EGO mower and snow blower, and they both take the same battery. She has the normal sized lawn and driveway, and she's never had to go to a second battery.

(quoted from post at 08:21:25 03/25/22) I think those are EGO brand. Lots of places had them for sale last year, but I haven't seen any this year. I think EGO is now a Lowes' "exclusive" brand.

The decision to not sell EGO was made for them, not by them.

Dirt Monkey on youtube has abused the EGO stuff pretty hard and it's held up to his shenanigans. Maybe he fakes it and changes the batteries out between edits but they seem to hold up fine and cut thick grass. Video is titled "Cutting the WORST Lawn on YouTube."

My wife takes care of an old woman, and she like to do certain things in her own yard. When she was 92 I got her one of those blue Kobalt things. She said if it lasted 10 minutes, she would be good as she would be worn out.She just does some edges and around the buildings where she doesn't want the mowing guy to go.She asked for another battery because she was out there mowing for hours.I got her a weed whacker like it too,but on that the batteries outlast her.She turned 96 in December and asked this morning if I would get her mower and whacker going.A year ago I tried a 20V chain saw for trimming with the bucket truck,I kind of thought it would be a joke. Now I'm not going to buy another gas arborists saw.I'm the guy that always said gas don't belong in flashlights and batteries don't belong in chainsaws.

We bought my 80 something mom (she insists on mowing herself and what mamma wants - she gets... ) a Stihl electric self propelled push mower last year. She loves it. No gas, oil or rope to pull. Charge a battery, squeeze a handle and she is going. Did I say she loves it?

Best part - she has two batteries and they do not last very long so she HAS to take a break. Takes a goodly time to recharge, so she mows parts of her yard, comes out the next day or evening and mows the other parts.

Have you considered one of those robots. I don't know anything about them but I see one going in my neighbors lawn all the time. It looks like a robot vacuum cleaner. I assume it mows a while then takes it self to a docking station and charges. It must be laid out with gps on his computer. I think it operates 24/7 because you can never tell whats mowed and what's not. Always looks the same.

ACE Hardware sells EGO locally. I have one. Quite a lot less $$ than the ad of the Milwaukee that big tee posted. I like it so far.

My Zero turn is in for annual service now. Usually couple hundred for that plus all the other maintenance for belts clutches trans ect. Add it all up and I dont see how gas competes with electric. I have all the hand held yard tools on battery power now.

We bought a Makita battery powered mower over the winter. Wife finally got to use it last week. LOVES it. I do too. No gas, no pulling that stupid rope, starts every time. Added it to our DeWalt battery powered yard tools. Weed eater, hedge trimmer, chainsaw, pole saw , blower....... Best thing we did was getting rid of those small engines! '50 Cub still cuts the big yard!

My elderly Father-in-law purchased a New Remmington electric 20 lawn mower. Didn't make it through first summer-battery went bad. $150 battery later, battery went bad again. It's now in my JUNK PILE. You can have it if you want. Had to push as fast as you could to finish his very small yard before battery went dead-and don't get behind if it rains! He said it was hard to push.

Yup they sold ya'll on the electric toy box and all those so called green weenie things game over now. Next will be buying one of those green weenie cars. then in about 10 years the complaint will be the hazardous material leaking from all those terrible landfill sites will sound like the old Berlin and Farrow issue near Flint Mi in the 70's to 80's Just keep them I'll use my diesel toys till I can't or till I quit.

100+ years ago on 'Yesterday's mules', some old guy was complaining about gas tractors... ... Things change.......

Yeah, I wish the manufacturers would go back to hand operated windshield wipers like real drivers used to use. Wimps now days have it too easy and how do we recycle properly all the junk when the modern wipers give out? laughing in my coffee-LIMC

In five years it wont be high gas prices people will be posting it will be why has my electric bill quadrupled? Oh wait you mean electricity isnt free ??

Most people are complaining more about how much food prices are rising, it is a larger portion of household budgets than gas.

I bought an EGO brand battery powered mower last summer and I like it very much. I have a normal size residential yard, battery is good for 60 minutes and I can mow entire yard in 45. If the grass gets too high or you try to set cutting level too low it will have a negative impact on how long battery lasts. I missed a cutting late in the summer and when I got into the heavier, thicker areas I heard the motor spool up the torque and battery only lasted about 30 minutes. It depends on what you want it to do? Mine has a speed control that is infinitely adjustable, it will go as fast/slow as you want.

I dont have a battery mower but do have a battery powered pole saw. Already had Dewalt batteries for drill/impact driver was the deciding factor for this brand. Tool only was half the cost of a gas powered unit. It works really good. If I trimmed trees everyday yes I would go with gas powered but this one does what I need.
