International 3414

Hello,

First time poster here. I'm looking to get a tractor to do some dirt work around the house, and I found this old International 3414, listed for $5k. It has the diesel motor. Honestly I'd prefer gas as that's what I'm familiar with, but people here love diesels so I suppose it's worth more.

Is this a good model to consider? Anything in particular to watch out for?

Thanks!

probably need a bit more info. I presume it has a loader. does it have a backhoe as well?

I have a IH 444 witch probably shares some parts but it is new to me so I can't say too much about it yet other than it is very easy to drive and nimble machine.

Similar tractors would be the Case 530/580 series and Ford 4000-5000 (not sure of the construction version #s) and Deere construction models as well.

$5000 seems high to me depending on condition if backhoe or not. and consider condition, past history (if known) tires ect ect.

I tired to post a picture but it got flagged as spam. Yes it has a loader and box scraper, no backhoe. It isn't pretty but they say it runs good.

I don't have a great sense of pricing and would have thought it high a few years ago, but it seems like everything is more expensive now.

I had a 3414 diesel and a gas, both were loader, backhoes. The diesel was torque converter drive. I was always worried I
would dig myself into a hole and not beable to get out. It never happened, but was slow moving. Both were good tractors
but I liked the straight gear transmission on the gas best.
Make sure the hydraulics are still strong after getting tractor up to operating temperature.

As much as I like the things, if youre not a
mechanic Id stay away from it. Aside from its
idiosyncrasies, parts are nonexistent. If it has a
clutch with shuttle reverse, there is no way to tell
how much life is left in the reversing transmission
without splitting the tractor; if it did a lot of loader
work (constant directional changes) , life
expectancy is less. The BD-154 is a good starter if
you know anything about series wired glow plugs. I
dont like the price. If you could get it for 2K Id think
about it. But 5000 will buy a half decent 4500 Ford
that is twice the machine of the 3414.

My brother and I bought one just like yours, Loader and IH box scraper. It needed some work which I did and it worked pretty well. We paid 2500 for
it about thirty years ago. It's gone now, brother has it but I shudder to think of its condition today. He's one of those guys that can break an
anvil with a rubber hammer.
