Here you go. Dont say I didnt warn you!

This is the end result of all your good advice.

A few words about materials. I used good quality steel for the door-pull. It has sufficient weight to keep the zip-tie to the outside of the door and has holes pre-drilled which makes it a good choice with no re-working involved.

For the zip-tie itself, I decided to heavy up and use one of my prized black ones that I only bring out for special occasions. I felt it would hold up better than the small white one.

To operate this new and customized system, simply reach inside the truck once the front door is open, grab the flat piece of steel and pull down. Door releases immediately.

So what about the interior door panels? Glad you asked. They went in the trash. Since Im committed to this as a long-term solution, there was no need to store those cheap pieces of plastic around somewhere and no one else would want standard-issue grey door panels for a 99 Ford pickup anyway. You cant give them away.

Back to the piece of scrap steelit is actually a tractor part and if anyone can tell what it is then you are REALLY good. Its from a MF 40 I dismantled for parts and Id describe it as a kind of shim or spacer. Any idea what part of the tractor it came from?

Thanks again for all the help, Gerrit

lets hope this does not go viral : )

My guess its a shim are spacer.

Now I'm trying to remember, but I think those spacers came from the front axle area somewhere. Guess I'll find out one day when I take my tractor apart. Gerrit
