Hello rrman61! I have a lathe and I turned down a round aluminium bar just a few thousands larger than the drill stem. The I used a body grinder with a sanding disk. I painted the aluminum bearings black a tapped them into the pipe and then back out again and sanded the shiny spots. Keep doing that till it goes all the way in. It sounds slow, but it really won't take long. Oh I forgot to say that I bored holes for the short axle stubs first. The axle stubs were 2.5 inches diameter and maybe the same length. I drilled them for grease fittings. Use 3/8 plate and bore holes for the axle stubs. I used to sell portable building and used it a lot. I have ramps that fit over the tail roll and it holds up under my backhoe.sorry for the bad picture, it was dark and raining, ha

I like your idea I believe I will do something similar with mine except my ramps are way heavier so I will mount them using the tail roller as the hinge pin(my ramps are made of 6 inch channel)they will have to be removeable in order to use the tail roller which will only be twice a year
