HP requirements for cultivator

I have a 8 row 30 inch IH model 183
Danish tine cultivator that I would
like to pull with a IH 574 diesel.
It is a straight tool bar without
any folding. Will it handle it or do we need
to plan on using something bigger ?
There will only be a total of 4
sweeps per row. Haven't plowed
anything with it since the 4 row
Lilliston days and it played with
it.

I think the biggest problem will be lifting it. An 8 row on that size tractor is a lot of weight. I used a brillion 6 row on a AC 6080 and it made the front end light.

When i was wide row, 36 in,I had a Farmhand culitvator,it had a big beam, like 9x11 or something, but to use that i had to use a full set of weight on that, in front,On a 806D, then i went to 12x30 reg beam, about the same weight, 2nd time threw, you could tell it was back there!

It will probably lift it with some weight on the front end. In sandy dirt it may need some help to pull it. Would be nicer with a taller tractor to see better and be up out of the dirt while working.

60 HP will get you by comfortably. 50 horse maybe. The 183 is a lighter framed cultivator spdesigned to stand up to shallower cultivating. Danish is definitely shallow cultivating.

I've had it hooked to this tractor before to do work on this cultivator. The 574 will lift it good but I never have been able to use it behind this tractor till now due to the wheel spacing it was set on.
