Any idea why J.I. set his front tire(s) out front of the tractor rather than under it like everybody else? Also, if it was such a great idea, why didn't anybody else follow suit?

Nobody else wanted to come fix the fence when it caught and pulled it apart. Reason for the front wheels underneath with the steering over top.

It's not really much further out front, most at that time ran the steering shaft over the engine to the pedestal in front of the radiator, then just lengthened the hood to cover it. So it's not any further out front than the others.

It depends on the wheelbase....longer wb gives a bit more stability and keeps the front end down. If you measured a Farmall or Deere an it would be close to that of the Case. Since the Case motor was directly bolted to the trans, the tractor was shorter overall....look at a standard model.....and mounted cultivator fit better on the long wb as well.

He needed a place for his chickens to roost.

They are not out front any more than any other tractor. The radiator and grill are back. Same as Ford 4 cyl. row crop wide front.
