Allis Chalmers hd5 stuck between gears

Hello I have an Allis Chalmers hd5 that is stuck between gears i took the shifter out and tried to put the transmission back into neutral but it wont budge I read on a forum that there is a screw that you can loosen to aid in putting it in neutral but they werent very clear on the location of this screw. Any tips and tricks are very much appreciated, thanks and I hope you all are having a great day.

You can't move it because it is under a mechanical strain.
Raise the back end, rotate the wheel slightly and all will work out.
As long as you have the cover off, rework the trans shifter/linkage and make it look like new.
That might require a simple bend, a smack with a hammer, replacement or weld to repair.

I am not an AC guy nor am I very familiar with crawlers. The tractors which I am familiar with Farmalls suffer from this same issue. I suspect Bruce did not realize your machine is a crawler, jacking up one track while it can be done is probably extremely difficult. While releasing the clutch can offer some release of tension this binding or twisting pressure may very well be coming from the final drive side of the gear train. If you have another tractor maybe while one person prys against the shifter another could run the rear tractor tire up against the machine and slightly nudge it to see if the tension is relieved. If one direction does not work try the other way, as in forward or back. Even a pickup with an old tire between the machine and bumper may be enough. Just use some common sense. After my own knowledge is used up on a problem the next thing I do is web search my issue. I copied the exact title you put on this post and searched. I came up with the attached info from an Allis forum. In the 2nd reply by ACmel there is a lot of info in the link on your issue. The blue print on that forum is very difficult to read in my opinion. Not sure if you are aware but there are also topic sections on here that are for the Allis manufacturer and also a Crawler, backhoe etc. one as well. Use the ..Jump to.. or ..Hop to.. drop down at the bottom of these posts and replies; or the Main Discussion Topic index to access those.

if you pull both steering levers back and hold them there if should disconnect each track from the drive train and release any torque
