Hey guys, , just wanted to put this out there to see if anyone has any info. I had a problem with my 1-2 gear. it wouldnt go into gear. Upon tearing it apart, i seen the shift rod (item #3253023550) was broke in half. So i call my local Kubota dealer to order a new shift rod. He tells me that it is no longer available. So, this is my first step in trying to source out a used one. So my question is this, does anyone know or have a contact where i may be able to find one?

howdy-- try Kabota parts America for discontinued, obsolete parts. they have a website.
you will need the part no. to do a search. good luck!

Ok great!! thank you i will check it out

(quoted from post at 19:50:30 03/07/22) Is there a reason you can't weld it up?

It broke right at the hole where the pin drops in to hold it in place. i dont think there will be enough meat there to give it strength. I tried the obsolete kubota parts too. They dont have a listing for that part.

Tractor is a 1996. Local dealer said that tractor makers are only obligated to make parts for 10 yrs.

There's something twisted about that rule. I would think that most tractors shouldn't
start to need spare parts until they are more than 10 years old.

Manufacturers are only required to provide parts for 10 years. That is not just Kubota, that's across the board. Tractors, cars, trucks... 10 years.

That does not mean that won't continue to provide parts support longer than that. They will continue to provide parts support for as long as it is profitable. Manufacturers are not charities. They have to make a profit to keep the doors open, to keep investors happy.

What it does mean is that lesser-used parts will not be replenished after the stock runs out. They look at how many they've sold in a certain amount of time, and if there is enough demand they get more made. Otherwise they use that shelf space for something more profitable.

You can take the lack of spare parts in this case to mean something completely different: This part hardly ever fails and it's just your bad luck.

If it's a simple shaft someone with a lathe should be able to recreate it.

Yes, it understandably makes sense. Unfortunately, its a part my local dealer has never sold. So i understand why this part isn't made anymore. So, tomorrow im going to one of the local machine shops and see if one can make it. It shouldn't be too difficult. Its just a piece of 1/2 case hardened shaft about 300mm long. a few holes drilled and a couple notches cut.

Glad I have some Fiat tractors, have always been able to find any parts I needed for my early 1970's Oliver 1365 tractors and Oliver has been out of business for 40 years.

Have you checked other Kubota dealers for that part availability?

Stick it together like it goes. Tack it on a couple sides or more then grind out some. Weld then grind out other side, weld and put back on. Should work fine. Ginding smooth on weld bead is optional.

"Ginding smooth on weld bead is optional."

If I understand correctly it broke where it passes through a fork and is broken at the hole for the cross pin that attaches it to the fork.

If that is correct one mite have to smooth the weld a bit!

Yes your right. I really dont think weilding it is an option, i contacted messicks yesterday. They have access to 10 of them. But......will not ship to nova scotia canada . I have a friend who lives in Penn that i sided to sell xmas trees with there. I contacted him and he said when he gets back in the area, he will get it. He was away for a few days.Takes 2 weeks for messicks to get it from there supplier tho. Took mine to local machine shop. He hasnt got back to me with the price yet.
