I need a new email address

Lost my 17 year yahoo email account about a month ago due to a hacker.
Had an account at Gmail forever but rarely used it. Have been using that for a month or so.
I dislike everything about it. Layout, how the functions work, goofy settings you can't change and I generally loathe all things google.
I want Web based email. NOT app based.
I'm even willing to pay a reasonable fee for it.
Any recommendations from you folks?

Your local internet provider should have what you want. Especially if it is a telephone or cable company.

Protonmail is good. Not as much capacity as most other email providers, but very secure.

If emailing with another Protonmail user, emails are encrypted automatically.

Can even put a time limit on emails so that they disappear X-amount of time after the other party has viewed it....or something like that.

Might have to wait a short while for an email account though. Free accounts are first come/first serve availability.

Jerry, my sentiments exactly about Gmail. I've used Outlook extensively for years at work, and a few years ago, set up a personal account, with the annual fee for MS office. At least the format and the features are good, not sure what the other choices are. I was trying to close on a rental property and using gmail was no fun during that, switched over to Outlook.

I'm not a big MS fan either, but it's a necessary evil for work.

Daughter uses: @ LiveDOT com ... will try to remember to ask her if she likes it ( later today when I see her).

I think I would stay away from Gmail. Probably 8 out of 10 spam emails I get is from Gmail. I've had pretty good luck with Outlook.live.com

Ultradog MN,

To each his own. I had at one time Verizon e-mail address. Have had msn.com from day one. I set the spam filter to 100% and add to the list all that I want in the in box as e-mails come in.

Spam goes to the garbage automatically after a few days,

Guido.

Over a year ago, my ISP changed their email format over to Google for a variety of reasons (I never understood any of the reason other than Telus wanted out). So that would be Telus up here, they had a good format an I liked it. When they switched over to Google, my email address stayed the same (with the Telus name in) but it used the GMail format. When I open up my Telus email account, I actually see the GMail format on my screen. I soon found out that one must e VErY careful with what most of us (and most providers) refer to as FILES where you might want to store some email or an email with a document, etc. The problem with GMail is that those are not really files, but simply LABELS which you attach to emails you think you are saving or storing. Problem is, there is only one real copy of that email. So if you say forward the email to someone else or reply to it, the email shows up in the sent file as well. So then you might choose to store the original which seems fine, until you clean out your sent files. If you clear out the email from there that you thought you were storing elsewhere, too bad for you .... the stored file disappears. If you Google the problem, you will see countless posts and forums where people are enraged about that so-called storage feature, or the lack of feature actually. Many business people have lost files and documents and can't find them. Google claims they will be somewhere in their ALL MAIL file and they might be, but looking and finding them is next to impossible. Why not simply use the file system that everone else uses? Had I not had 140 emails in one group that I have and send emails to, the best thing would have been to start fresh using Outlook or Hotmail or some other provider. Once you place an email in one of those files with them, it stays there forever regardless of what you do with it elsewhere. For that reason alone, I dislike GMail with a passion, and would use the hate-word which I don't like to use. OK, I'll use it, I hate GMail.

Hello, I have good luck with Hotmail.com - It is a Microsoft Product that they have been developing for years so the interface is pretty good in my opinion. They are integrating others such as collaboration, file share etc., but as of now I believe it is free.

I use Thunderbird with a g-mail account. Works well for me. I don't have any issues with g-mail saving anything. Operation and setup is pretty straightforward. Thunderbird can be set to delete server messages. Whether that actually happens, I don't know.
I think that ANY e-mail client/app/ISP that you use will archive ALL messages, regardless of what you do on your end, or which product you use. You know - Big Brother and other interested parties. 100% integration with known problematic tech companies is a problem in itself: Micros--- comes immediately to mind. G--gle is a close second. Security is mostly an afterthought with a lot of companies - profit first!

I don't like gmail either. BUT, gmail does have its perks. Probably the best is that you can give out as many different email addresses as you want, and if the person/place you give one to gives/sells/trades it, you will be able to trace it back to them.

...I tried to explain it, but my explanation left a LOT to be desired. Please check out these two websites. They explain it much better:

https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/how-to-find-out-whos-selling-your-email-address/

https://www.ghacks.net/2018/05/31/find-out-if-your-email-address-has-been-sold/

There's lots more websites and videos showing this process. Just do a search for [b:b24cad1198][i:b24cad1198][color=green:b24cad1198]find out who's selling your gmail address[/color:b24cad1198][/i:b24cad1198][/b:b24cad1198] and you'll get many more results.

here is a list of supposedly good ones,

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I don't understand how you lose an email account. Can't you change the password and get it back?

I read a few weeks ago that having a gmail account is likely to reduce your chances of getting a job that you apply for.
