Inner tube rust

What is the best way to remove the rust chunks off an inner tube? I have a couple heavy tubes that are in good shape, no leaks, but have chunks of rust stuck on them. Some of it fell off when I aired up the tube and it stretched, but a lot is still holding on tight. I don't want to remount them as is, but don't want to damage the tube trying to pick them off. Anyone have a trick to loosen them up (vinegar, WD40, coke, etc?) Thanks

You can soak the tube in Muriatic acid. Pool acid is the same. Maybe little weaker. Home
depot sells it. It will eat your clothes also. Wear rubber gloves, and eye protection. Stan

I took Rich's (Old's) advice and pumped it up big. Then I used a small, rather dull angled prybar and stripped off the tough ones. I didn't have any trouble getting even the tough pieces off, and I had a couple of square feet of welded on scale, up to about 1/8 thick.

Pump it up extra big and use a piece of sandpaper, emery cloth with the square holes, or something similar. Even a sharp pocket knife at a very small angle to the tube works great. Patience will be your friend.

Air it up fairly firm and use a very course wire wheel in an electric drill. I know it sounds a little weird but it works. Just go easy until you get the feel.

Liquid pre-buff cleaner, available at auto parts stores. Apply it and scrape. It does evaporate pretty fast. You can also use gasoline!!!

I have done many that bad or worse. I just pump them up hard then scrap them with a putty knife screwdriver or even a semi sharp bar or chisel. A rasp will ruin the tube in short order.
