Air filter question

I'm still working onbthe Kubota engine
swap and trying to get things hooked up.
The air filter is one issue. I can hook
easily to it and even use the original
hose if I hook to the inlet side rather
than the regular exit side. Hooking to the
other side will likely require moving the
filter and making a complex hose and pipe
setup. I'm wondering if running the air
backward through the filter will be an
issue. This engine is small for the filter
and air flow will be well under the
filters capacity if that makes a
difference.

jon i think you would be ok. there is probably less surface area on the inside of the filter, but if as you say it is more than the engine requires i dont see a problem. you may need to change filters more frequently or put a pre cleaner on the intake side of the filter.

My question would be, will the filration seal good running it backward or would it allow dirt or other debris to be sucked into the engine? Also would the filter withold being operated in reverse and not start coming apart? Those would be my concerns.

John,,, being a KUBOTA dealer for years I have seen it all , but in short Hamilton below has it right the seal is not designed for reverse flow , now could you do it and get buy I suppose so but might be iffy. I have ever kind of hose and housings here but the small one you have there is what the engine takes some flex radiator hose might be your answer.

A lot will depend on how well the outer can seals.

What I'm picturing could suck dirt around the base of the outer can unless there is as seal there.

Curious what your filter looks like. The filter on these 2 are the same and they are held in place by a wing bolt and seal that comes with the cartridge. They could be run backwards and seal. Maybe jm could help you convert to this style if it would help. Sorry I don't have a closer pic., but the left tractor is a 92 b7100hst. Messick's can provide you with a closeup of it.
