1993 Mercury sets most of the time this is an ongoing issue : ( as all that SET... I charged the battery on site and drove it back to the shop. The King of choice to evaluate starting/charging systems a Sun Vat40.

I complement it with a good DVOM I don't trust the analog gauges to be deadly accurate. Fully charged the top charge burn off by hitting it with the load tester a few times.

Load test at 300 amps Voltage drops to 9.39 immediately battery is headed down hill.

Lets check starter draw quickly, I set DVOM to Min/max and start the engine. Min reading 10.46 lets use that and the Vat 40 to see what amps the starter draws. It looks the starter is drawing 175 amps its good to go.

We got one more test a parasitic drain test. Meter set to amps using a tool to break/make the connection. All set up lets go parasitic drain .086 MA : (

Lets walk away from it for a bit no one loves chasing a drain. When i come back .026 MA we a cooking with gas lets inform the customer of what we found. Yes I am putting a battery in that MT586 meter a low bat will throw it off that's why switched to the blue meter.

I just picked up a VAT-40 been watching sum u-tube videos on operation .

that being said it would be helpful to have a operations manual , you wouldn't by chance
have one that you could copy and sell me .thanks

email is open

I am happy to see that I'm not the only one who kept all their older diagnostic
equipment and kept it all in operating condition.

No I don't... I picked this one up for $40 all I wanted was the cart. True load testing has become a lost art the shop that had this one no one knew how to use it. The screw that locks the load knob to the shaft had came lose that's all that was wrong with it.

Warring I have brought a few more $20 Sun charging/starting testers they were not fixable.

thanks for that PDF link , that's what I was looking for.

it looks like its going to be a handy tool from what I have seen on U-tube
