GL-5 gear oil

I just bought some Travler 80-90 gear oil from Tractor Supply for an Economy tractor I have been working on. The container says for, along with other uses, for manual transmissions. I am a little concerned as the manual transmissions on this tractor have bronze bushings in the counter shaft. However I realize that a high percent of manual transmissions have brass synchronizers in them. Are the GL-5 gear lubes now safe for yellow metal?

I guess I never worried about it. I put all new bushings in dad's Troy built tiller with the same oil I use in the rearends of my trucks which is the GL-5 deal been there for several years now. I guess it is either real slow deteriorating them or didn't hurt them.

I've heard that and wondered about the brass rings in transmissions.

Must be something to it, the warning lives on. Not sure what it does, but I've never personally seen it damage anything.

If you can find the factory recommendation that will be the safest. One of the safe oils is GL-1 mineral oil, it has no EP or AW additives, 15w 40 diesel engine oil is also a substitute.

Thanks for your replies. I may end up using this oil in the final drives and rear end and going with something different in the transmissions, (it has two). I have seen engine oils work a for long periods in a few transmissions so may try the 15-40 as I like a fairly thick oil for gear lubes. For one thing it helps stop the gears spinning when you are changing gear or shift into gear.
