Any corn planted yet?

As a resident of the frozen north I always like to hear about the first corn planted each spring. I think southern Texas should be started or very soon. It gives me hope that spring will get here. Shouldn't complain as we have had the easiest winter in the 17 years I have liver here. Tom

Got some temps in mid 30's this morning and some predicted next weekend so I will hold off another week and see what the forecast is. Once we get a weeks forecast with no 30's predicted I will start corn. Usually happens last week of February or first week of March. But I only plant a home garden so if I jump the gun and have to replant it is no big deal.
This is in SE La.

But spring is the wrong time frame to look if you are looking for first corn planted.
This is a picture I took in February a few years ago just south of Lake Okeechobee in Florida.
I know the picture is bad because of the sun location but it is corn tall enough it is starting to tassel.
Granted this is far enough south they rarely if almost never get cold enough for a frost but they grow corn in the winter because of so many bugs that attack the corn in the heat of summer.

Ground is still too cold to plant. Daddy always waited till after the third week of February, and after the new moon.

Middle of April normally here in Ohio, Used to be would not drop planter in ground even if ground was ready untill May 15. Have ground freez after first planted corn in first part of May. Did not hurt that first field tho.

It's usually the last couple of days of March here in Eastern NC when planters start rolling. It doesn't take but 1 planter running to cause a pandemic of the community to start. Usually the dogwood trees have blooms the size of a squirrels ear. That's what I've always heard from the older generation about when to start.

Nothing like the smell of fresh dirt in the spring after a cold winter.

I thought we should start seeing a little milder weather soon. Then 2 days ago we watched as 12 major flocks of sandhill cranes flew heading south! They were as far to the east and to the west that we could see. Either a short summer or late leaving the north country, I hope. This is in Southern Indiana.

It is about that time. The darker ground is still too wet to go but they should be starting on the lighter ground any time.

The date everyone used to use is February 25. This year the cold didnt get here until after the first of the year so I think most will wait until the 1st of March. This is Medina county southwest of San Antonio. Tony

Planning on planting the first crop the second week of March, mainly plant field corn. The family doesn't really like sweet corn that much. Will plant a little of it later.
