Hello, So i just pulled the head off of my WD Allis because water jackets are all rusted and gummed up causing it to overheat. The head is going into a shop to be professionally cleaned but the water jackets in the block could use a good flushing. Is there some mixture that i could pour into the jacket of the block while the head is off that could possibly sit for a week or two and break loose all the GOOP in there. I would just flush it out the block drain later. Wondering if anyone has any advice

Thanks

Vinegar has been the old tried and true radiator and block cleaner for a good many years. Its pretty hard to go wrong with it. It is not fast so give it plenty of time. It would be better if you could somehow flush the junk out of a bigger hole than the block drain. I am not familiar with the WD but maybe the water pump could be removed to allow for faster flushing. The radiator really should be removed for a good cleaning and that might give you better access to the water pump. Ya I know all this involves more wrench turning but this way you will have done a more thorough cleaning of the entire cooling system.

Plug oil galleries in top of block and wash it out with a hose from the top with good flow junk will wash out the top of the block and run off this would get the larger stuff.

I did my 806D, with vinegar, it doesnt attack o rings, brass, or rubber,
anything but the old years of calcium build up. You got to flush it out with a water hose, it stained the rocks/gravel where it came out, i can still see the spot.

use plastic lids from products like butter tubs or ? that just fit over the cylinders, then use plumbers putty to seal them down, protecting the rings/pistons and cylinder walls. Use a pressure washer or stream hose fitting to blow out the loose material (be careful not to direct the pressure to the plastics), then fill with vinegar (cleaning high acid type not cooking strength) if below 40 degrees to near freezing let it stand a week. If warmer, less time. Drain and look at the results. repeat if still flakey. Rinse thoroughly. Jim
