Hardly a Break

We hardly get a break between storms lately it seems. I spent a good part of Sunday and Monday clearing hard packed snow drifts from my yard and half mile driveway. Drifts so hard the tractor would ride up on them and I had to use the bucket on the 2140 and blade on the 2090 to break it up before the blower would chew it up and blow away. Had it all looking good by 5:00 Monday but by Tuesday morning it was blowing strong again and drifted the driveway. I made it out with the Blazer but even four wheel drive didn't save me from some shoveling to get through.. I didn't get any video of the snow clearing but did get a little through the windshield video in the Blazer. Never travel without a shovel in this country in the winter.
Freezing rain and wind is next on the list so the roads that are open will be slippery to drive on.

Out of curiosity rusty6 how long is your driveway, when I was a kid and had to walk our 1/2 mile driveway to catch the school bus in the cold Mn winter it seemed as long as yours but I know it was shorter, thanks for sharing your videos I enjoy them

Mines a half mile. We never had to walk it when the weather got cold as the bus would come right to the yard to pick up or drop off. Unless it was too muddy or impassable for the bus and dad would drive us out with the tractor and wagon or stoneboat. If it was too bad for the tractor then we got a day off from school.

If I were to wait till there was no salt on the road, I would never get to town for November till April. We have been lucky not to have had the winds like you have. Snow is between one and two feet deep here, so lots to drift if it starts to blow.

My brother always puts a snow fence up to keep the drifts from blocking his driveway. My girlfriend's neighbor would blow the snow out of his yard. We didn't know why until this year. He died and the renters didn't do anything and the driveway to my GFs house has drifted shut numerous times. A landowner plows the snow in his field, which is next to a state highway. I believe he does it to stop the snow from drifting across the highway. Next year you should become pro active in stead of waiting for it to happen again. Hopefully next year GFs landlord will do something else also, but I doubt it.

What do you do for mail? Rural delivery or need to go to town for it?

Ron
My mail accumulates in the post office in town until I get there. I think the longest I left it was two weeks. Usually try to get it every week but sometimes it doesn't work out.

From what I've seen of ridging snow in the past it just fills up the trenches and then there is still plenty more to catch on the driveway..Biggest problem here is the road is old and settled lower than it used to be. Needs to be built up higher.

Roosty I have been fooling around with this Go Pro camera I won in a contest years ago but never used. You stimulated my interest.. What model is yours ?

Mine is pretty old, not sure but close to ten years at a guess. The name on the front is the "Hero 3". Its been a good camera and shot a lot of video over the years. Still the original battery. I even had it underwater once.

Thank you. Mine is a Hero3 also. I won it as an
attendance prize in 2016. Never had time before to use
with it. They dont make actual go pro batteries anymore
for that evidently. But I bought three after market
batteries and a charger for $12 on the internet. Going to
try it out this weekend.

That is a little shocking that they don't make batteries for the Gopro. I have not even looked for any as mine seems to be doing fine on the original. That sounds similar to my Autel drone. Very nice drone but the batteries didn't seem to last and finally became impossible to buy anywhere. I was really disappointed with Autel for that. I had to sideline a four year old drone for lack of a battery so you can bet the next drone I bought was not an Autel.

The after market batteries work good so far. And they came with a charger. Better than charging it in the
camera. And they were inexpensive. But I think go pro stopped offering them . because they are on Hero10
now. Ill try and learn this. Maybe I can post video of my farm. Thx for your help and your posts over the
years.

Thats great. Hope to see some of the resulting video. Maybe by the time mine needs a new battery it will be time to upgrade to a newer camera.

Rusty6, My GoPro is a Hero 3, Is that the same time period as yours. I don't remember when I bought it. Seems a long time ago.
Seems to me mine was called the Hero 3 White edition. I know I was shooting video with it in the spring of 2014 and possibly before that. Have to check my records to be sure.
