GP, here's a picture taken from the operators manual on the 454 we had of the carb page. May be of some help ??

your tractor is serial # 875. That style is common to IH from 06 series on (1963). I would have to check on the 560 tag if it is the same. Someone else may know what the other numbers stand for.

I think it has to have a working solenoid installed for it to work. Ours went bad once and the only option then was to just replace it. You could hook up a temporary tank and try it off of the normal supply line. There could be other options on the solenoid replacement that I'm not aware of being it left the roost 20 yrs ago. Ours had a somewhat bad tendency to vapor lock in the summer.

Do you have an older CIH dealership nearby ? Preferably one that was in business during the IH days that may have some NOS inventory ? Next option I'd try is All States Ag (spelling ?).

I just looked up the solenoid for carb...the part # I come up with is CIH 71358C92. That's the one I remember. Several places show to have them online including All State for $ 135 - 140. The battery lids on all of these tractors are ridiculously priced for a fiberglass lid. For your sake I hope you obtained it. There are a few local sources for good used parts for these 454 - X84 series tractors. Call me if run up on something unobtainium as there was a bunch of em around.. 252- five 6 zero, 0 seven 7 nine.

Kevin, my 656 gas tractors have the shutoff solenoids. 2 of them are still working, 1 has the needle removed, and 1 has the tip cut off. Both surgeries are the results of the solenoids failing and cost/availability to replace. Neither one has had any issue with run-on when the key is off, and it has been years. I think you can just plug the hole and go.

Yes you can plug the hole and run it to see what you have. Solenoid is a fuel shutoff I think originally to help with engine run on or backfire after shutting down. Carb is essentially a fixed main jet carb. Have those on 424 tractor and all of the gas 403 combines used them. I think the threads might even be the same as the adjustable main jets like your ford tractors use. Mike
