I have a IH 584 4wd and IH 684 2wd and the 584 is in bad shape so I would love to swap out the 4wd parts and make my 684 a 4wd
By just looking at it it looks like everything should bolt on just fine but dont know if there is a gear difference or something like that
So wondering if anyone out there would have some knowledge on this and help me out ..
Thankyou

About all I can find in the parts book is one is 206 cu in engine and the other 239 cu i n. The
ring gear in the rear appears to be the same so probably will work.

Kimco axle or ZF? Seems to me the ZF axle tractors had a different bolster than the 2wd. Evident in the larger models where 5 square high grill for 2wd and 4 square high for 4wd.

Guessing if you have two entire tractors, you'd have all the parts anyways. My understanding is the big difference is the 206 versus 239 engine. Both are 4 cyl.

Hello Duane welcome to YT. No hands on experience, but looking at the parts diagrams you have a fair task ahead of you if you decide to take this on. First thing I would do is get the drive section off that the rear of the front drive shaft pulls power from out of the transmission to make sure the gear is in place on the 684 that drives it. If you are not aware you can view the parts break downs for these tractors online. I will add a link for that, it may open to a Farmall M trans diagram, you need to choose ..Model name.. for the search type and enter 584 or 684 then search it will pop up in the list. I will say that on my iPhone it does not work the greatest. Or at least when I select a part number to see details and ultimately put it in the cart to purchase the wrong part shows up. CHNI says that it could be due to the ..cache.. in the browser but I have never had the guts to clear it. I also can give you a link to the service manual for your tractor, prefer to do that by email, log in on Modern View or will show on Classic. Hope this helps.
