1965 case 430 tractor. triple seed trans.

Okay I need a little help here. I have a 1965 case 430 (440 U) tractor over here I need to get some oil for the the triples speed Manuel transmission. I need to know if Napa auto parts carry's the 5 gallon jug and what type to add to this tractor. can any body give me an ideal of this? Just asking going crazy looking in the book for the oil requirements for this transmission. thank you for your knowledge and help.

The triple range gear box is also the hydraulic oil reservoir and is checked by a pipe plug dip stick at the very front of the housing. The oil is added at the larger pipe plug just back from the other. The oil can be Case TCH or equivalent hydraulic/transmission oil. If your oil is low, you may want to check your transmission/differential oil. The dip stick is on the big plug on the left side just in front of the seat. The 430's and others are prone to leak past the PTO seal into the rear end.

Thank you for your replay. I like the good information you had given me. Yesterday I had to go towards Smith valley in Nevada. so I stopped in the CASE/ I.H. dealership over there. I had picked up a 5 gallon bucket of CAS B85144 85/140 gear oil which was to go to they front of this tractor they said. Took 16 pints to fill because it was empty. Which lead to 4 gallons. We hope to start up the new/ rebuilt 148 gasoline engine soon. this tractor is almost all restore we have tires left to do. A complete restoration tractor is almost done. thanks again for the information.

Curious as to how to stop these leaks, new gasket or can a retorque take care of this ???

Hello RD welcome to YT! I cannot easily explain what happened here but it has to do with the 2 view system on this forum and the fact that you replied to an older topic. Another gentleman has replied to your post but I assume he replied in the opposite view you used so his reply is disconnected from this thread. Anyway I am going to repeat his suggestion to post this under the Case topic section I will put a link here for you. Then you can go from the new post button there. It would be nice if you could add a photo to show what exactly is leaking on your tractor. The problem with that is you need 5 posts here to post a photo. So say a few hellos or something to get a few posts. The photo will be added by the ..Choose files.. button lower on the posting page. Here is the Case forum link.

The forum merging system normally works pretty well, so that doesn't always happen.

85/140 is NOT hydraulic oil, and will make a very poor hydraulic oil. I hope that is not what you used for the transmission you are asking about.
