Dad and me plowing in 4 in. tile in the 80s with the first tile plow I built

Just this morning I went by a field where they were laying tile prior to the weather closing in during the last couple of weeks. The plow looked like it could go in a maximum of 7 feet and the hill they were going over had a rise of at least 6 feet. I'm thinking the backside away from the ditch is not going to drain too well.

Around here the red rock shale is generally about 2 feet down. And it goes up and down the hillside. Some places it crops up above the surface.

Tee, did you do and bell ringing at the holidays? T thought about that post a year ago every time I went to HyVee this Christmas season!

My late brother plowing alfalfa ground in 1969 on a brand new G-900 MM with 5x16's.
cvphoto115279.jpg

The G-900 stuck in the spring of 1969...Dad just bought this 220 acres and it was a mess to plow..I'll bet we got stuck 10-15 times in this one field. It rained until late July and we never got 60 acres of this farm planted.

Me on the G-900 plowing alfalfa under in 1969..The draft control was locked out to keep the plow in the ground in a tough spot..In normal plowing the front never came up as the 900 MM's were nose heavy.

1206--Did not know you came from a MM family--You should be pulling a G-VI with a HD-800 in it! I know what you mean about getting stuck plowing. My Great Uncle had a nine acre farm that had what we called quick sand about a foot in the ground--If the furrow wheel started spinning you couldn't push the clutch in fast enough--you were stuck to the axle before you knew it.

Yes I did ring--I thought you were the guy that had a Fareway route??--Might have ya mixed up..Only rang 8 times in 2021--Was helping Son in the field until December...

We have tiled with frost in the ground trying to finish a job--Does not work too bad until you get over 6-8 inches of frost. We pre-rip and the chunks you bring pre-ripping raises hell with trying to get traction when you make your second pass--Hard on equipment too. Winter makes almost everything twice as hard!!!!---Tee

In our part of the country we hit limestone once and awhile--That will check your welds out!

My mother told a story about once when I was about 2 years old.

She heard me laughing and went to investigate. My dad had been plowing and the moldboards on the plow were as shiny as a mirror. I was sitting on the ground laughing at my distorted reflection in one of the moldboards.

Sometimes I take it off the 3020 it comes off in 5 minutes . The 4020 stays on one day maybe itll come off and forget to go back on .

Between 1966-71 we had a real good MM -New Idea dealer (Bell Tractor Sales) 5 miles SW of us....I worked there some....He sold a bunch of tractors in those 6 years..Dad got a new M-670 Super diesel,New G-900 MM diesel, used M-5 LP,and a used 445 LP at Bells...I have a 425 cube MM U puller....I'd love to have a turbo 800 powered MM LP puller in the 10500 Hot Stock class but dont know if it would make 600-700 horses.
