NOT funny! Been there because someone else loaded the trailer with milled lumber from logs we had hauled a couple of weeks before. I had no way to unload it.
Aside from the excessive weight, the 10,000 gvw trailer was originally factory built with mobile home style axles and wheels. Brakes only on one axle.
I was on I-69 west of Flint, Mich. I saw the left rear wheel leaving the trailer as we approached an exit ramp. I made it onto the ramp and the wheel went into the grass adjacent to the highway. (thankfully)
I had a 12-ton hydraulic bottle jack and a high-lift jack in the truck. We got the trailer lifted and the wheel back on BUT, we only had 4 of the 5 tabs and bolts.
Everything held together for another 60 miles.
Shortly after that I had new axles installed, each wheel with 8 lugs and brakes on both axles.
There is a formula for calculating the weight of logs. I've asked a friend to send it to me.
And, by the way, I ain't hauling no more dem logs or lumber.

I saw a guy load an Oliver 1800 gas, it was field ready, on a car hauler. He made it about 5 miles, the axels bent and let the tires rub on the frame. It bent the axels on all four just out side the spring. I expect that Oliver would exceed 10,000 lbs.

People just don't understand what things weigh, AND/OR they think a "7000lb" trailer is good to haul a 7000lb load AND/OR when someone tells them what something weighs, they don't believe it AND/OR they heard from someone on a forum that they "did it and it was just fine." The people with the facts that try to help get shouted down and called "Barney" or "Weight Police."

If you'll excuse me I have a Oliver 1800 that I need to haul with my Harbor Freight folding trailer. I mean you don't need to pay attention to weight ratings, right?
