Would a rig like that travel at night when traffic is lighter? Im sure they would be escorted day or night. Impressive!

Takes a lot of pre trip planning only certain exits that rig can go down and finding a fuel stop is definitely a chore. Anything over 10 ft backing up is just a disaster.

I once had to do the design calculations for an overload permit-to transport a 300 ton transformer over a 25 ton drawbridge ---- with a lot of finagling i got it to be ok.

With a load like that you can believe they have been planning this trip for a year or more.
And with a max speed of 30 mph they will shut the road down and travel only at night.
Anything the truck needs including fuel will be brought to the truck while it is parked like in this rest area.

It's part of a nuclear reactor used by the Navy for training in NY going to Indiana the be scrapped. I was going to post the link but can't find it now.

2.00 Per mile would not even cover the permit cost. More like about 10-15 per mile for a load like that. The trailer would cost 100,000.00 plus not counting the extras on it. Truck is another 100,000.00 plus. My Pete 22 years ago cost just over 100,000.00 and it is just a pretty normal truck with just a few upgrades to it like heavier axle housings on the drives fuel pressure gage, air restriction gage, volt and ampere meter and suspension gage for the weight of the load. Up level interior and dual air seats. Also has the ultra cab so it was a bit taller through the sleeper entry. 475 at 1750 Cat with 18spd and 3.55 rears has been since turned up to the 550 at 1850 torque a 6NZ engine with the single turbo. As for fuel and some of those things probably bobtails to the fuel or gets it on route at a smaller place along the route on a US or State highway. He'll have a tillerman or a remote for the rear steering on the trailer. Escort cars on both ends along with probably some State Patrol cars as he progresses along the route. Yup been in the plans for a few months probably.

Considering its going to take them 2 weeks just to go 400 miles across Pa I do not think 10-15 per mile is going to do it.
Then you consider the months of planning; engineers each bridge weight capacity on the route even adding a 0 to your 10-15 might not cut it.

Caterpillar did you leave out some zeroes in the cost of the trailer? A new feed trailer that holds 27- 30 tons of feed costs $150,000. A feed trailer is a bantam weight aluminum can compared the trailer in this picture.
