Starting the 2140

Again. This time I experimented by using a known good battery. Borrowed one of the almost new 1000 CCA batteries off the 2090 and put it on the 2140. It made quite a difference. So since the tractor was running I did a little more snow blowing, cleaning up around the barn and cattle shelter with the front end loader. And finished up the day with a sunset flight with the drone. Now this evening its snowing again so the clean yard didn't last long.

What is it they say. Wash your car and it will rain. Blow snow and make a nice job and that is just asking for more snow. Lol

(quoted from post at 20:08:17 01/13/22) Nothing makes a tractor start like a new battery that spins it over fast. I like that Orange tomcat, hes a dandy
Hes a good old boy. Showed up here as a stray a few years ago.

Always like your video work and posting them for us. I grew up on a farm and helped while growing up, but never operated a farm of my own, so it is nice to watch someone else doing the work so an old guy like me can watch without the responsibility!! How many acres do you have occupied with your building site? Just guessing from watching your drone work, I'd estimate 5 acres.

Hi Ron. I don't know but you could be close in your estimate. I'll have to map it out on google earth sometime and calculate it from there.

(quoted from post at 21:43:58 01/13/22) Always enjoy your posts and videos. That cat isnt missing any meals evidently.
Thanks. Those six cats are always ready for a meal twice a day. Commercial cat food mixed with baked potatoes and beef fat seems to keep them looking good. Hopefully the supplement it with the occasional mouse too.

(quoted from post at 08:24:01 01/14/22) Nice picture rusty6. Curious about the thrashing machine in the photo. Thanks for now.

That is the Nichols and Shepherd Red River Special thresher that has been on this farm longer than I have. I pulled it up on that hilltop as sort of a historical marker.

Well thats a bit ironic. I just looked at one of those this morning to see if I should bring it home to my place. Its a 30 x 52.nichols and Sheppard red river special line
according to the serial number plate.

Very interesting. I have never seen a plate like that on the one I have here.

I hope this isn't taken as a hi-jacking of your thread but if anyone reading here is interested in old threshing machines (in working order and being used at their show every year) should visit the LeSueur County (MN) Pioneer Power Show to see these great machines in action. The show is the last weekend of August every year. A good friend is the coordinator of the threshing portion of the show. www.pioneerpowershow.com

No problem hijacking threads Ron. I am probably more guilty of that than some.
The closest I came to threshing was when I used the Cockshutt 50 to power a Case thresher for a demo in town back in 2017. I just lined up to the belt and let the old 50 run while the other guys pitched sheaves into the feeder. It was hot hot weather but still a good time.

Rusty....I am going to spend some of your money....That tractor was originally equipped with 2 batteries and it will make a huge difference if you went that route. Also run the ground cable to the engine block as opposed to the factory connection on the firewall. The other thing to check is if your hydraulic pump has a destroking screw. If so turning it in (clockwise) removes the load of the hydraulic pump load from the starter when cranking

Yes, it had two batteries when I got it but the starter was bad and also hard to keep the cable connections clean. I figured since I had been starting two other old diesels on one battery for years this John Deere should too. I'm still considering the 2 battery option. It had two ground cables on it both going down under the tray to the cast iron. I've read of the "de stroking" screw option for JD but don't know if this tractor has it. No mention of it in the manual.
