Idiot proof wiring

Of course there's always an idiot will try to prove me wrong.

I have a battery that its impossible to charge. terminals are

Hidden.
So I modified charger's cables to unplug alligator clips and only one way to connect to cables I'm going to attach to battery.

I have a tool box full of the blue connectors. Some male, some female. Can't cross wire the charger terminals.
And if an idiot tries the smart charger will tell you are an idiot,
won't charge.

BTW, Free. Everything was paid for.
Years ago I picked up many different types of electrical terminals at annual local festival. Have a lifetime of special terminals.

Might find terminals on Ebay or Amazon cheaper than auto store.

On our motorcycles the batteries are very hard to get at, so I installed the little pig tail connectors on them, pretty fool proof. My little battery charger came with one to permanently install on a battery.

Cant get to battery without removing seat. Most tenders and chargers come with the pigtail. Mine stays connected all the time for charging. Good you could make your own version.

I have a few connections that came with another charger.
Instead of spending money, I made these for another charger.

I use battery tenders on almost all my batteries. I have the pigtail connectors on all my batteries all the time. I have had buy some extra pigtails. Most of my tenders have the connector in the cord so you can either use plug in or clip to batter terminals.

I've wired several with these. You can get them at the auto supply in the trailer wiring section.

Connect one end permanently to the battery, or better to the solenoid, away from the acid.

Then the other wires to the charger.

Have to be careful to wire the insulated plug side to the positive or non-grounded side of the battery.

What if you want to Jump it, booster charger to start or start another one off of it? My answer to all 3, I can not get to my battery either easy that is and is 11 years old.

Sorry. I have been working with generators, wiring and control systems. Since 1973 I have found NOTHING IS IDIOT PROOF.

Hi Billy, I picked up the Champion generator and like it well so far. The guy at store said to run on gasoline to keep the valves from sticking ever so often but have only ran on LP so far. Thanks again

If I connect charger positive to starter cable it won't charge battery. Charger won't
Turn on if it doesn't see 12v.

It is a proven fact that when you think you have made something completely idiot proof, they will come up with a better idiot.

Smart charger or not, the cable going to the starter doesn't directly connect to +12v until the solenoid is engaged.

Some tractors have a 2 pin plug, one on charger cable and one on tractor.

I'm cheap and made the charger connect to the battery without removing the battery from the mower or the tractor. Used electrical connections I carry in the truck.

(quoted from post at 18:41:22 01/08/22) You do know you can connect right to the starter to charge the. Battery

In some cases, yes.

In this case, no.

False information doesn't help anyone and lowers the credibility of those dispensing it.

Yea it does have 12 volts all the time I strongly suggest barney get a meter and see for himself . The only ones that dont have 12 volts are the ones that goes into the starter and the solenoid engage wire . 12 volts are at the starter all day and all night no matter what you do

SV,

George didn't tell anyone make and model of what he is working on, so you couldn't look at any wiring diagram. It is not uncommon for lawn and garden tractors to run the battery positive cable to a remote solenoid, as in the case with his. The starter only sees 12 volts when the solenoid is engaged. Thus, there is no direct 12 volts at the starter, so he is correct in saying it does not have direct 12 volts at the starter. He doesn't say if the solenoid is available to connect the charger positive there and use the frame for the ground point, avoiding the need to access the battery, as was your point about going to the starter to charge.

George,

If the battery was impossible to charge, sorry but even your smart charger wouldn't work. The true statement would be it is inconvenient to charge, it with the charger's clamps, due to it's location. And were your components to build the little jumpers really free? If you paid for them at any point in time, they were purchased, not free.
