How to determine which distributer i have in a JD 3010 tractor
I don't see a tab or a stamped number. The paint looks factory
and it hasn't been all scratched up. The system is a 12 volt neg ground system that somebody has converted over to 12 volt neg ground as it wasn't that from factory. Any ideas?

If you are lucky it's a Delco with two screws retaining the distributor cap, used the same points as a GM inline engine of the era.

I think that is the only unit DEERE has serviced except for point and cap and rotor for many years.

The 3010 parts book shows the Delco Remy with the clip-on cap used on serial number 1E2999 and prior. A Delco Remy that used screws to hold the cap on was used serial number 1E3000 and after. It also appears that the one with the screws holding the cap on was the replacement distributor for the one with clips, if the distributor was replaced on one of the earlier serial number tractors.

So yes, a picture would help, but answering if the cap is held on with screws or clips should tell the story. The clip-on cap distributors usually had a tag riveted on. The later screw on caps had the Delco part number stamped in the aluminum body, and they were not always stamped deep and can be a pain to find. There is also the possibility that it has been replaced with an aftermarket clone. Here a picture looking down on the points would help.

And the distributor doesn't care if it is positive or negative ground.

I tried posting the picture of the distributor but the website wont let me post it

What do you need to know?

The cap held on with two screws identifies it as a Delco, and the points in the photo I previously posted.

Some possible Delco distributor numbers would be 1112474, 1112623, or 1112648, and possibly others.

They all look exactly the same, AFAIK.

Click on the link, does that look like what you have?

Here is a link to the online John Deere 3010 Parts catalog, open to the page for the Delco Remy distributor (having the cap held on by two screws) which should be the right one for your 3010.

As wore out asked, "What do you need to know?" Or was identifying it the only thing you wanted/needed.

If you didn't know the JD parts catalogs are free to use online. In case you need other parts, here is a link to the whole of the 3010 wheel tractor parts catalog.
