The left side lift arm that attaches to the rock shaft on my tractors 3-point broke.the splnded part is broken on one side while the other side is held together with a bolt(split coupler I guess)if its not too deformed can I weld it back together? I have a ac/dc stick welder.its cast iron.if so what type rod do I use?nickel rods?

If it is really cast iron and not cast steel or a forging then you will need to preheat it to get a good weld that will hold. Then let it cool very slowly like in a bed of insulation or in some warm sand till cool maybe a day.

It's probably cast STEEL, or like caterpillar guy says, forged.

Look up spark tests on you tube. The kind of spark the metal produces when touched with a grinder will tell you what kind of material it is. Most likely it is steel, as iron would not be strong enough for this application.

You can use plain old 7018 on cast steel. You've got nothing to lose in trying to weld it.
