Son has a Toyota 4x4 with rusted frame. Engine is Jasper remanf . Good running 3x4 with junk frame. Oliver post on oliver forum got me thinking, any other Truck of any brand would be a reasonable swap. Son is in construction and has little time to work therefore it would be dear old dad to do the swap. Been setting nost of a year. Maybe we should sell the whole thing. Sand blasting and reinforcing/replacing frame deterioration might be reasonable if the body is worth it. If the body is also too far gone, finding a better truck of the same design run, from a state that doesn't use salt with compromised mechanicals would be best, and easiest. Jim

Not too many years ago I guy I know had the frame replaced on a Tundra under warranty by the Toyota dealer, the truck was a 2001 with almost 300K on it. It took them almost a year to get it done, they gave him a new truck as a loaner and he used it as his work truck that whole time, construction contractor. They were not happy with the condition that new truck was returned in...

Toyota was buying back certain year trucks for rusted frames. I know someone that did quite well selling one back. I forget what conditions had to be met.

Toyota replaced the frame on my 2004 Tundra with 170 k back around 2115. It only took 4 days and they gave me a late model Tundra to drive. I watched as they went around while it was on the lift pounding the frame with a ball peen hammer looking for holes, they told me depending on where the holes were, determined whether they replaced the frame, rust proofed it with a chemical or bought it back. They bought back a friends Tacoma at about the same time and allowed 20k towards a new one. WHO DOES THAT? Having never owned a Foreign vehicle before that I was impressed enough to buy 2 more Toyota since then.

It got to the point with my 98 Tacoma that a jack stand pushed up into the frame rail, just ahead of the front spring perch. Really good 3.4 in it but over 200K on it, from a salt State. Bit the bullet, and sold it to a wrecking yard for $450, and bought an Oregon-used 2015. Not much call for salt just inland from the Oregon coast. I didn't think Toyota would replace the frame for me but I really never tried that, either. steve

I know a guy that had a 1998 Toyota pickup with 240,000 miles on it and got a new frame put under it just last October. They give a new vehicle to drive and no charge.

I have a customer with a 2003 Tacoma with the pattern rusted out frame they would not repair it. He's a Federal Judge I have not seen him since the virus hit several years ago.

He did disability claims the last guy in line if you had a claim. When he dropped on his vehicles he was in and out fast. He worked all over when he went to the court house he rented a car. When he retired I got to know him better he had a tall fence around his house. He lived 50 miles from me I guess he was hoping no one would recognize him. That's a hard way to live.

BTW when my wife had her stroke I told him I had just filed for her disability. A week later I got a call it was approved the next week. I never asked him about it that seamed fast... It did paralyzer on one side it never got better till her death... Its one of those deals its no doubt are someone pushed a button are two and sent it to the front of the line.

My neighbor has an old F150, Frame and body has been attacked by Iron Worms. I'll have to post pics of this truck. The only thing keeping the rear axle attached are the front spring shackles.

Wild Bill, you need to find a younger person to replace the frame or sell the motor and get some of the cost of the motor back.

I have a 94 Toyota Pickup. The truck was a gift...well sort of. I had to rebuild the front suspension, the upper and lower control arms were rotted away. Replaced most of the brake lines. I was on a 1st name basis with local steel mart. Now this is a farm truck that will never be put back on the road. Motor has 74,000 miles and runs like a clock. I am estimating that I have nearly $1000 in repairs. But like my Wife says If its free its worth saving up for
