That job only took 45 min. and only two trips up and down the basement steps four trips up and down the ladder . I got my Christmas TOY mounted . The War Dept and KIDS bought me a total fancy electronic weather station with self dumping rain gauge . Now Maybe the jenny Rem may not like it as it is mounted on the one clothes line post next to her HOUSE . Now i can tell everything that is happening in my back yard as far as weather . . Took more time to get it set up then it did to install. I cheated on the mount and just ordered one off Amazon , yea i could have cut a piece of plate out of 1/4 inch used some 1 1/2 or two sch. 40 fired up the welder called in a crane to set the end results our just CLICK on Buy it now and wait two days and stick it up with two 1/4 inch lags . that i just happen to have in stock . Now worrys about the ladder kicking out as it was well planted in the yard once i steeped on it as it sank about 6-8 inches , getting back up took a good tuggen . But it is up leveled and assmith (sp) is set , almost missed that part of the set up.

I got one of those last year.

Put it up above the brick chimney. Mounted it on a 21 ft section if 1 1/4 galvanized pipe. It pivots at the bottom and has a clamp at top I can release without climbing up there again.

I need to add about another 10 ft to it though, the trees block the wind.

For me to get above the hill and into the wind i would need a fifty foot tower as it blocks the wind out of the south and west. . The wind could be bending the trees up on the hill but down here it is a light breeze .

I was thinking of getting one a few years ago but it was nearly 2K. I didn't need it that badly.

I don't think the one i got cost that much . If the war Dept and kids had that kind of CHUMP CHANGE layen around i would have got the one rifle i would love to have . OR they would have got me a new DOUGLAS air gauge barrel for my one long range rifle that and old gun smith and i put together . Old Grant Dick was quite a gunsmith and built many great rifles .

I like my manual scientific gauge, it reads down to .05. At our age I don't have a problem hiking out through the mud and snow but I need to start writing it down. By the time I get in the house I forget the reading.

I bought an automatic rain gauge a couple of weeks ago,$20.00 and it is freeze proof. .88 in the last two weeks(I think that is going to change this weekend)

Our son gave us one 2-3 years ago, we had to replace it last year but we sure like it!!! Once we got used to having it it has become a habit to check it (usually temp and rain gauge if it rained) first thing in the morning!!! Like not having
to remember to dump rain gauge every time too!!!!

Regarding rain/ weather station, you can get a good one for less than $100 on Amazon and it does not have to be emptied. Records down to .01 and keeps track of temperature and wind speed as well. We really like ours, have had it for 3 years now.

(quoted from post at 02:12:33 12/30/21) What kind di you get? Kids gave me a LaCross. When it warms up. I'll put it out.

Hope you have better luck with your Lacrosse than I did. Mine was about $100 12-15 years back and lasted about a year.

i grew up in northwest colorado and my dad never would have a thermometer as he said didn't make any deference how cold it was the cows still had to be feed and your still going to have to walk up the lane to catch the school bus i am like that now guys call say his tractor wont start i still go if it hot or cold.. he also always told the story of one ranch that would make out to the bunk house before the hands get up it was 10 below or colder he slid the bulb up a several degrees so thy wont thank it was all that cold .
