(quoted from post at 10:14:30 12/25/21) Natural gas has gone up 10% from last year in Bemidji MN. Electricity too, partly because of the SNAFU in Texas last winter.

May I ask if Texas electricity is on it's own electrical grid how what happened to Texas electricity last February affects the price of electricity in other states? Thanks I'm just curious.

2.09 This week in SE Illinois. There is a decent cash discount. Sure glad we have a heat pump. Total electric bill was just $88

This is the explanation for why Minnesotans are paying more for Nat gas because of Texas.

With its ill-equipped natural gas systems clocked by the cold, Texass exports across the Rio Grande froze up and 4.7 million customers in northern Mexico went without electricity more than in Texas itself. The spot price of gas jumped 30-fold as far west as Southern California. And all the way up by the Canadian border, gas utilities in Minnesota that turned to the daily spot market to meet demand say they had to pay about $800 million more than planned over the course of just five days as the Texas freeze-up pinched off supplies.

Back in September it was $2.05. I added a new tank and filled it in November and it was $2.35. No telling what it is today and whether or not the dealers have run out like they did last winter. I upped my capacity for my house and my standby generator so that I can make it through the winter without a refuel, can survive a week or so without power from the COOP and live comfortably, and can fill up durning the summer when supplies are plentiful and cheaper. I replaced my wood stove with Propane. At 80, I decided I had enough of trying to find wood and fooling with it. Not sorry!

I'm not sure the governor raised enough of a stink that the ERCOT folks managing the system have made any noteworthy changes
to prevent a future occurrence. I have been looking for news articles (from a variety of news sources) and have seen few. I
understand that one of the members of the board doesn't even live in, nor near Texas. So I made some changes as I mentioned
elsewhere on this site just now and let them have their neglect. I'm a good boy scout (Sea Explorers, BSA), Be Prepared!
