would you use it again

A hydraulic pump was sent to me for an overhaul with this center section. As you see in the photos, it has been repaired by welding on the out side and brazed on the in side. It was a very decent job. Would you use it again?

Centerplate no I wouldnt. Theres a guy on the Oliver forum that
makes new center plates! Lol I bought new seals and bearings from
you about 5 years ago and pump still works good.

I wouldn't mess with it. It might not be cracked now but if it is bolted back together the stresses might be just different enough from the original to make a crack and a leak. And you will be blamed for it.

For myself or a buddy, yes. If sent in for
rebuilding with expected warranty and
payment in real $ instead of a box of
barley pop, no. Call the guy and explain
you cant guarantee somebody else's
patches.

Another question is WHY did it break in the first place, if a relief valve is stuck or has been tampered with it will break again even if replaced with a new part.

well if it was used before as it appears what your saying , you got it that way. i would not be scared of it. also what is it off of? hard to tell if the body is spread a few thou.

If it was mine and worked before, I'd say put her back in, but since it's somebody else's, do it right and be done with it. Mine still works good, but I haven't used it yet.

For those that were asking; it is a pump for an Oliver 77 through 880. It runs at about 1000 psi and has a radial gear clearance .0025" to .0035".

I will not put this in a pump for a customer. One of you pointed my reputation is on the line. My own ... maybe. It would have to be a parade queen, not a regular working tractor.

My point with this post was some one did a very nice job repairing this center.

That is a very good weld. It probably distorted the ID enough that it could not build pressure up to spec anymore.

I might use it on my own machine.

Never on a customers unless the customer is well known to me and has a very good understanding that any issues of failure or less than optimal performance rests squarely on their shoulders.

I'd have to consider it very carefully in both cases.

If it was a one of a kind machine with no replacement parts .
Otherwise mill the end plates, worn rotors and centre plate to regain clearances . Bolt together and be glad it pumps some volume and some pressure .

If it's for a customer I would call them
and tell them of the issue. If new can be
found then no.I have seen repairs that
would last a life time.I have found over
the years that some things aren't worth
the risk.Hydraulics is one of them.
