It just sold...........

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a pic of this tractor when it was coming up for auction on a local online auction.

It was described as a '52 8N, and said it wasn't running, had been in storage, and needed a tune up. I asked what people thought it would sell for. Consensus was $600 to $800. Bidding just ended on it for $875.

I didn't bid. I stopped at the auction yard and scoped it out in person, and just couldn't get excited. This picture does wonders for it. Up close, the gray looked like someone had just shot a coat of paint on it without doing any prep work, you can see the overspray on the tires. The steering had about a half turn of play. The lid on the rear of the hood had cobbled up hinges on it, etc. Plus non-running. Plus Ford experts said it couldn't be a '52 8N.

I've always thought it would be both fun and handy to have one of those little Fords, but that one wasn't the one.

I hope whoever bought it knows what he's getting.

It was David City.

A week ago Sunday my wife and I went through David City on our way to a sister-in-law's house in Columbus so we swung in and checked it out.

Cant be too hard on the ole girl. Someone got what I see as a good starting point at only 875$ Shes rough no doubt but someone with a solid mechanical background will get that ole girl running good enough to get a few more years out of it. Wingnut

Tom Armstrong of N Complete in Wilkinson, In told me he would pay up to 4500 for a tractor in that condition and then go to work on it. Came out looking like new but not 'restored'. 'Refurbished' was the term he used. He would then sell them for about $8000 but that was many years ago. He sold his operation many years ago. I wouldn't buy an N. Go for the NAAs, 100 Series or, better yet, the 1000 Series. Much better tractors for not very much more money. We have a local former Ford dealer that refurbishes old Ford tractors. He had a nice looking 860 for sale for $6000. It sold.
